Stephen K. Miller - Bio

Stephen K. MillerMr. Miller served twenty-eight years with Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City one of the nations leading integrated healthcare systems, ranked # 1 or 2 by Modern Healthcare for all of the past eight years. Intermountain provides world-class service in 21 hospitals and more than 140 health centers, clinics, homecare and urgent care facilities. Intermountain has a reputation as a pioneer in continuous quality improvement and clinical programs. At Intermountain Mr. Miller was Assistant Vice President and Administrative Director of Laboratory Services. He was responsible for administration oversight of all hospital laboratories and three major clinics. During his tenure Laboratory Services was successful in the standardization of technical procedures and equipment, the consolidation of testing, the establishment of primary and single vendor contracts, and the creation of uniform human resource policies for its 1050 employees. Under his direction a nationally recognized laboratory compliance program was established and outreach testing services to physician offices were expanded which resulted in an annual increase in test volumes and revenues of seven to fifteen percent. 


With Intermountain Healthcare’s strategy to provide high value care by managing clinical processes, improving medical outcomes, and increasing patient satisfaction at the lowest necessary cost, Mr. Miller acted as the laboratory liaison to other corporate clinical programs, and established a laboratory infrastructure to meet and achieve corporate and clinical goals. The result was a nationally recognized integrated laboratory system, known for its innovation, quality care, patient satisfaction, effective processes, increased revenues, and cost cutting measures. He has made presentations of its organization model in national and regional Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA) meetings, national vendor meetings, and the Dark Report, a leading worldwide source of management intelligence for clinical laboratories.  In addition he has participated with several other Integrated Delivery networks in reviewing and benchmarking best laboratory practices. He has been on the Board of Advisors for Abbott Diagnostics, Roche Diagnostics, Weber State University School of Medical Technology, and American Red Cross-Lewis and Clark Region.  

Mr. Miller received his Masters of Public Administration Degree, with healthcare emphasis, along with Bachelors of Science Degree in Microbiology from Brigham Young University. He is a registered medical technologist MT(ASCP) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologist. He is Past President and Board Member of the Utah Chapter of the Clinical Laboratory Management Association.
